The presence of bacteria in water after regrowth

چکیده
The processes used for producing potable water are not intended to produce bacteria-free water; rather, they are concerned with removing microorganisms that are a potential health threat and making water aesthetically pleasing. The types of processes used to treat water appear to have relatively little effect on the types of bacteria that can pass through the treatment process, although disinfection with oxidizing disinfectants will tend to remove vegetative bacteria, whereas bacterial spores may well be unaffected. It is well understood that there are many factors that affect an organism's susceptibility to chlorine disinfection, and one of the major factors appears to be the degree of metabolic activity. Organisms that have grown in low-nutrient systems or have been " starved " tend to be considerably more resistant to disinfection than those grown under laboratory conditions in nutrient-rich media. Thus, caution must be applied in

Investigation of Bacterial Regrowth and Residual Chlorine in Household Stored Water in Saveh- Iran
Background & Aims of the Study: Saveh city -located in the semi-arid area in Iran- has brackish water and it was forced to use reverse osmosis desalting systems. Water is not distributed through the distribution network to homes so, people have to buy water from certain places and transfer water through household storage vessel. They have to buy more water and keep it at home for more than 1 w...
متن کاملInactivation, reactivation and regrowth of indigenous bacteria in reclaimed water after chlorine disinfection of a municipal wastewater treatment plant.
Disinfection of reclaimed water prior to reuse is important to prevent the transmission of pathogens. Chlorine is a widely utilized disinfectant and as such is a leading contender for disinfection of reclaimed water. To understand the risks of chlorination resulting from the potential selection of pathogenic bacteria, the inactivation, reactivation and regrowth rates of indigenous bacteria were...
متن کاملIn vitro Plant Regeneration of Helianthus Annuus (Hyb. Azargol) From Alginate-Encapsulated Shoot Tips for Short Term Storage, Germplasm Exchange and Distribution
The present study demonstrates the potential of nutrient-alginate encapsulation of shoot tips of sunflower, Helianthus annuus (hyb. Azargol) for synthetic seed technology, which could be useful in germplasm distribution and exchange. Shoot tips from in vitro shoot cultures derived from mature seed explants were encapsulated in 3% sodium alginate and 100 mM CaCl2. 2H...
متن کاملDisinfection of greywater effluent and regrowth potential of selected bacteria.
Chlorination and UV irradiation of RBC (rotating biological contactor)-treated light GW (greywater) was investigated. The ability of chlorine and UV to inactivate indictor bacteria (FC - Faecal Coliforms, HPC - Heterotrophic Plate Count) and specific pathogens (P.a. - Pseudomonas aeruginosa sp., S.a. - Staphylococcus aureus sp.), was assessed and their regrowth potential was examined. The RBC r...
متن کاملElimination of enteric indicators and pathogenic bacteria in secondary effluents and lake water by solar disinfection (SODIS)
The reduction of enteric indicators (fecal coliforms (FC) and Enterococcus faecalis) and elimination of pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella spp. and Staphylococcus aureus) in the secondary effluents and lake water by solar disinfection (SODIS) was studied in this article. FC, E. faecalis, Salmonella spp. and S. aureus were isolated and enumerated using membrane filtration techniques after SODIS of ...
متن کاملInactivation and regrowth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria by PAA disinfection in the secondary effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant.
Inactivation and microbial regrowth of penicillin-, ampicillin-, cefalexin-, tetracycline-, chloramphenicol-, and rifampicin-resistant bacteria were studied to explore risks associated with selection and regrowth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria after PAA disinfection. The results showed that after exposure to 20 mg/L PAA for 10 min, inactivation of ampicillin-resistant bacteria reached 2.3-log...
